As I was watching the videos and reading the articles I started to realize more and more how much of an influence technology has on our society and particularly how much kids use it. When I was young, we didn't have the technology that kids have today. I didn't have a cell phone or the internet. When I wrote a report I used an encyclopedia. Now days students have limitless access to information for reports and learning just by typing in a few words. They are coming out with so many new resources and technologies now days that it's important to keep up.
I thought that article about "Teens See Disconnect Between Personal and School Writing" was very interesting. It talked about how teens think of the writing they do for school and the writing they do for email, texting, etc. as being very different. In texting we use a lot of abbreviations and no one worries about punctuation or spelling. When we write emails we are probably a little more accurate. But when it comes to writing a paper, punctuation and spelling are suddenly important again. I personally think that the abbreviations and lack of punctuation is fine so long as the students actually do know how to write well for a paper.
